Doosan Machine Tools – News from DIMF and the celebration of 45 years of existence
It comes again that time of the year of retrospection, balances, resolution and forecast for new beginning of the new year.
With this occasion, we turned our attention to the Korean machine tool manufacturer, Doosan Machine Tools, which celebrated in 2021 its 45th anniversary, organized the 13th Doosan International Machine Tool Fair (DIMF 2021) and exhibited over 10 new machine tool models at EMO Milan.
The company we now know as Doosan Group has its roots in a small store opened in Seoul in 1896. Formerly known as a retail and cosmetics store, Doosan grew predominantly after the Korean War. In the mid-1970s, the company’s business units included a news agency, a brewery, and several industrial enterprises. By 1979, Doosan had exported more than $ 100 million worth of products. The Doosan machine tool division was been established in 1976 and entered the Romanian market in 2002.
In 2007 there is an extensive process of rebranding and integration of Doosan Mecatec’s car-some division. In 2016 Doosan Infracore becomes Doosan Machine Tools and the main goal of the newly established company is to become one of the best-selling machine tool builders in the world, respectively in the top 3.
To achieve its goal, Doosan has invested heavily in research and development, restructured production operations and raised its profile at industry events around the world. Behind the scenes, engineers have begun to reconsider some of the most popular Doosan machines, and have developed machine tools with more benefits than previous or competitors’ models, staying within the same price range.
In 2018, the company received the diploma for high innovation and excellence from the Korean Association for the Promotion of Inventions, and the Seongju plant is expanding due to growing demand for large machine tools models.
Currently, the company celebrates, in addition to 45 years of existence, also 13 editions of the internal event DIMF – Doosan International Machine Tool Fair.
DIMF is a machine tool fair organized exclusively by Doosan Machine Tools, designed to promote the corporation’s products and technologies. This is a biennial event held at the Changwon Factory in Doosan Machine Tools, Korea, since 1997.
This machine tool fair with a history of 24 years has attracted a total of 30,000 visitors from all over the world and its main purpose was:
- To present the high-speed, high-precision, 5-axis multifunctional processing and, in this way, to meet the trends in electric, IT and semiconductor vehicles industries
- To unveil the new models and demonstrations of specialized processing in the required industries
The main keywords of DIMF 2021 are “high speed, high precision, multifunctional, 5-axis, state-of-the-art technology, automation and digitization“.
In particular, Doosan Machine Tools unveiled a new range of multi-tasking machines, from SMX2100 to SMX5100, along with new 5-axis products such as DVF 6500T, DVF 8000T / 50, DVF 8000-AML and VCF 1100LSR. Doosan has also unveiled new high-speed optimized machining models, such as SVM, NHP 4000AL and T 4000HS, as well as new high-precision HSP 8000 and NHP 5500F models.
In addition, automation solutions for the bar feeder, part catcher, pallet system and COBOT (collaborative robot) were also exhibit to present methods of increasing productivity and increasing profitability through equipment convergence and automation solutions.
Doosan Machine Tools CEO Kim Jae-Seop said: “To mark the 45th anniversary of our founding, we have planned DIMF 2021 Virtual out of a desire to open a new era and prepare ourselves for the next 45 years”, he said.
